Multi-dimensional Modeling of Human Sexuality Defined by Four Distinct Variables

Okay, so if you read my previous blog, you’ll know a couple things:

1)      I’m sexually confused boo

2)      I’m determined to create my own measurement(s) for sexual orientation partly because it’s kind of fun, partly to help figure myself out.  And partly because I’m bored.

Besides, it’s Sunday.  I’ll do my real homework tonight.  Or tomorrow.  Afternoon.  Evening.  Afternoon-evening-ish.  Maybe Tuesday.

But whatever.  The important thing is I did it!  The whole theoretical modeling.  The variables were operationally defined my me, so don’t go looking for them or anything silly like that.  I’m sure they’re not horribly unique, but it was therapeutic.  If you happen to know of something similar to what follows, I’d love to know.  Anyway, bear with me here:  the following is a bit…compact.

Multi-dimensional Modeling of Human Sexuality

Defined by Four Distinct Variables

Attraction:  desire not limited to physical/emotional; romantic/friendly; interpersonal; etc.

Intimacy:  defined by Emotional and Physical attraction.

Individual:  defined by Conceptual and Characteristic attraction.

Emotional:  attraction/intimacy determined by such ‘Feminine’ characteristics as defined in BSRI (as example of measurement).

Physical:  attraction/intimacy determined by biological response and arousal (chemical/brain activity, pupil dilation, reaction-time, dopamine/serotonin levels, heart rate, etc) based on physical features and visual stimuli.

Conceptual:  abstract (and superficial) attraction to images, ideas, and scenarios and/or attributes with lesser (but not insignificant) emphasis on compatibility, motive, behavior, and individual difference and lifestyle (illusory fantasy).

Characterization:  concrete (and conscious) attraction to attributes, compatibility, motive, behavior, and individual difference with lesser (but not insignificant) emphasis on imagery, ideas, and scenarios.

-         Not to be mistaken with desirable qualities/traits and personal significance of those qualities/traits alone; we all want and admire compatibility, certain behavior, etc.  Thus, characterization measures your attraction alone.

  • Ex:  ‘Individual X is extremely attractive because s/he is quiet and shy.’

Multi-dimensional models

-         Simple Intimacy Model (2 variables)

  • Emotional/Physical (Intimacy)
  • Version 1:  Gender neutral
    • Important not to think of gender, period
    • Rated in terms of significance and meaning of variables to individual for potential partnership [as opposed to actual, concrete (cognitive) attraction]
  • Version 2:  Gender-specific
    • Rated in terms of level of conscious attraction

-         Tri-dimensional Model (3 variables)

  • Emotional/Physical/Characterization
  • Rated in terms of significance and meaning
  • Gender-specific or gender neutral

-         Individual Model (2 variables)

  • Characterization/Conceptual
  • Version 1:  Gender neutral
  • Version 2:  Gender-specific
  • Both measured in terms of occurrence/presence in thoughts

-         3-Step Model (4 variables)

  • Emotional/Physical (Intimacy Model V.2)
  • Characterization/Conceptual (Individual Model V.2)

Difference between ‘Individual’ and ‘Intimacy’ could be representative of individual importance and interpretation of the various modes and preference(s) of ‘attraction’ (See Figure, Intimacy-Individual Relatedness)

-         Potential intersects assumed (assigned numbers)

-         Distance equation

  • √[(X2 – X1)² + (Y2 – Y1)²]

-         Regression (y = a + bx)

  • Forecasting with respect to relationships, social interaction
  • Nonlinear as well?

The following are the aforementioned models:

And now, we get to me.  Me, me, me.  So I used my own models as examples in accordance to how/what I am/feel/etc.  What do my models tell you about me?  I suppose you can just decide for yourself.  Tee.  Hee.

Obviously, this could be potentially expanded upon (especially in terms of predictive modeling), but my homophobic father decided to spontaneously visit me while he’s in the area, so I must now encrypt my more ‘scandalous’ files and delete my Internet browser history and the like.  I’m quite serious.  He likes to ‘see my apartment’ and will then promptly proceed to use my computer.  Sometimes innocently.  Yet, other times, it’s rather obvious he’s looking for naughty things (lol) like oh—say—porn and whatnot. Little does he know…

In any case, I started messing around with these theoretical models/ideas about four hours ago, which means it’s now nearing 1230 hours and he’s a-comin’ at 1300.  Christies.  He’ll probably be late though.  Now I’m just laughing a bit to myself considering that I spent four hours creating and defining these models–it’s not like it’s for a class.  But it has strangely helped me with my own little ‘dilemma.’  Yes.  This is the new therapy for us confused people; screw aversion therapy, yeah!  Designing your own sexual-orientation-type model shall be the new pseudo-therapeutic trend…

And off I go!
